Kate Winslet & Andrea Riseborough attend the 'Lee' New York Screening

Kate Winslet and Andrea Riseborough may be co-stars, but at the New York screening of their new film ‘Lee’, held at the Museum of Modern Art on Wednesday, it seemed they were headed to entirely different events.

While I did not expect them to match dress wise, and it is refreshing to see individuality on the red carpet; these two took “opposites attract” to a whole new level—and not necessarily in a good way.

Kate Winslet opted for a look from Jenny Packham’s Pre-Fall 2024 collection, pairing a black crystal-beaded top with black trousers. While the outfit had the potential to shine, it gave off more of an “after-work Christmas party” vibe than a film screening. It was as if she had simply added a sparkly top to her office attire to give it some festive flair—fine for an office gathering, but a little underwhelming for a screening. Jenny Packham is known for her glamorous, often ethereal pieces, but this look fell a bit flat, even by Kate’s usual understated standards.

On the other hand, Andrea Riseborough stepped out in an Erdem Spring 2025 dress that leaned towards delicate ballet recital territory. The soft shades of peach, blush, and coral—while whimsical—didn’t do her any favours, making her appear washed out rather than radiant. With Andrea’s usually striking presence, this dress muted her natural glow, the pastel palette clashing with her skin tone instead of enhancing it.

Both actresses ultimately missed the mark in achieving their usual standards which was hugely disappointing.
