Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s Archewell Foundation released a short statement in honor of National Voter Registration Day, which was on September 17.
“Voting is not just a right; it’s a fundamental way to influence the fate of our communities. At The Archewell Foundation, we recognize that civic engagement, no matter one’s political party, is at the heart of a more just and equitable world,” the statement, posted to the organization’s website, reads. “Together, let’s make sure every eligible voter is informed and empowered to participate in shaping America’s future.”
The post also indicated that the foundation had held a get-together to write letters to potential voters encouraging them to get registered, calling it a “meaningful volunteer activity to support and empower our communities,” and adding that they used “Vote Forward’s impactful letter-writing tool” to write “personalized letters.”
Additionally, the post linked to websites where you can check your voter registration status and encourage others to do the same. Check out the post, which includes a handful of pictures, here.
Since defecting to America, the couple have not been outwardly partisan, though they have used their platform to raise awareness about causes that are important to them. In a rare interview, Meghan Markle opened up about utilizing the impact that her fashion choices make on the industry.
“Times where I know there is a global spotlight, and attention will be given to each detail of what I may or may not be wearing, then I support designers that I have really great friendships with, and smaller, up-and-coming brands that haven’t gotten the attention that they should be getting,” she told the New York Times. “That’s one of the most powerful things that I’m able to do, and that’s simply wearing, like, an earring.”
Wear earrings and vote. I like that agenda!
