Chloë Sevigny attends Los Angeles Premiere of Netflix's "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story"

Chloe Sevigny has long been a source of red carpet intrigue. Her recent choices, such as her Balenciaga tablecloth-meets-towel dress, have left many of us puzzled. But did her latest looks for the Los Angeles premiere of Netflix’s ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ and the New York screening offer any redemption? Let’s take a closer look.

LA Premiere

Chloe sported a Phoebe Philo leather jacket with a flounce hemline. While I can see what she was aiming for—an edgy, nonconformist vibe—the execution fell flat. Standing alongside co-stars in more traditional suits, the look felt disjointed and low effort for a premiere.

The flared hem and bubble shape didn’t do her any favours and pairing it with Loewe Toy pumps made matters worse. This attempt at rebellious chic missed the mark.

However, the model totally sold the look to me.

New York Screening

Chloe fared better at the New York screening in a tailored Vivienne Westwood Drunken Tailored checked wool blazer and matching mini skirt.  Paired with burgundy heels that would’ve been a better choice for her LA look, this outfit had a touch of Westwood’s punk elegance. However, the overall look still lacked polish. The suit had potential, but better grooming would’ve brought this look together. While not a knockout, it was certainly a step in the right direction compared to her LA outing.

Where does Chloe’s red carpet fashion choices sit between avant-garde and confusing? For me, it’s confusing, and I hope she finds her groove again, because when it was good, it was very good.

Her co-stars Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and Cooper Koch are both didn’t seek to reinterpret menswear staples such as the pinstripe suit, and a grey sweater wool trousers, and both looked effortless doing so.
