The American Music Awards’ 50th Anniversary Special brought out music’s finest to LA Center Studios, and the red carpet was a mix of dramatic glamour, slinky chic, and casual insouciance. Here is a loot at the most notable looks of the evening.
Golden (Not Literally) Glamour
Jennifer Hudson brought the drama in a La Roxx liquid velvet gown with a sheer, crystal-accented yoke—a look that some might say feels a little dated. Yet, given her status as a true diva and the fact that she was performing on a night dedicated to the legends of music, both past and present, this outfit felt just right for her. The gown had a classic “old school glamour meets performance spectacle” vibe, perfectly suited to Jennifer’s powerhouse persona. She embraced the extravagance, and it worked—at least for me.
Carpet Couture
Kate Hudson, meanwhile, took a different route. As the new girl on the music scene, she opted for a Fendi Fall 2023 Couture gown in light green with silk fringe and embroidery. The slinky silhouette was undeniably stunning, highlighting her figure while exuding understated glamour. However, the fabric had an odd nostalgic effect—it reminded me of the carpet from my childhood bedroom, and not necessarily in the best way. Despite the luxurious craftsmanship, the texture was a strange choice for me.
An Accessories Miss
Jordyn Woods gave us what could only be described as a quintessential music awards ceremony look—a mini silver Balmain dress in smooth liquid fabric, styled with metallic pumps. The shiny, figure-hugging ensemble was everything you’d expect from an event like this: bold and daring. The Judith Leiber Wildcat Bengal Tiger clutch was a playful addition, complemented her amber ring.
Come As You Are
And then there was Raye, who truly “came as she was.” Arriving in a brown sweatshirt and a green knit mini skirt, her look was a surprising choice for an awards event. Love it or hate it, there’s something refreshingly genuine about her unwillingness to conform—though one has to wonder if her luggage from London was lost en route.
Overall, the AMA’s 50th Anniversary showcased the full spectrum of style—dramatic, elegant, daring, and even effortlessly nonchalant. It was an evening where each artist stayed true to themselves, embracing fashion that echoed their individuality, and for that alone, it was worth celebrating.
