The 2024 Time100 Next Gala in New York City brought out some of the most exciting up-and-coming talents.
From vintage gowns to bold, contemporary silhouettes, the event highlighted a range of styles that reflected each attendee’s personality and flair. Here’s a look at some of the notable looks.
Vintage Glamour Revived
Victoria Monét turned heads in a vintage Roberto Cavalli Spring 2005 open-back gown, a piece previously worn by Bella Hadid at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and Sharon Stone in 2013. The gown continues to be a red carpet favourite, and it’s not hard to see why. Victoria looked stunning, but the gown’s first out left a lasting impact that’s hard to surpass. She completed her look with red Jimmy Choo Max platforms, adding a modern touch to this vintage revival.
Versace Nostalgia
Sabrina Carpenter’s custom Versace bustier dress instantly transported me to the 1980s, thanks to the mesh fabric that evoked classic Versace vibes. While the look was undeniably glamorous, it was the nostalgic nod to the brand’s earlier years that truly made this outfit stand out. Sabrina expertly balanced old-school Versace with her modern, youthful energy.
Should she have worn the runway version?
Sporty Elegance
Renée Rapp, one of the evening’s honourees, eschewed traditional gala gowns in favour of a Willy Chavarria ensemble consisting of a Fall 2024 sporty-inspired track jacket paired with a skirt from the designer’s Fall 2023 collection. Though it might not be everyone’s first choice for a formal event, I love the energy of this look—it’s bold, unique, and suits her perfectly.
Bridgerton Romance
Known for her bold colour choices, Nicola Coughlan took a step back from her usual vibrant style and embraced the romantic regency era with an off-the-shoulder Dior Haute Couture gown. While I miss her colourful flair, this look beautifully captures the essence of her hit TV show ‘Bridgerton.’
Chanel Meets Harlequin
Laufey’s Chanel jumpsuit was a mix between vintage pajamas and the harlequin/jester aesthetic that Lady Gaga recently attempted. It’s a quirky look, with a playful concept that was easier to digest in comparison to Gaga.
Gucci with a Twist
Kingsley Ben-Adir stepped out in a Gucci suit which was not surprising. But I was surprised to see that he skipped his usual loafer-and-socks combination. Featuring Gucci’s signature GG pin, the look felt polished, which I have come to expect from his outings.
Hmmm
Kaia Gerber typically nails her red carpet looks, but the lining on her Ferragamo Spring 2025 ribbed dress with fringe detailing left me underwhelmed. The red version of the dress might have elevated this look, but as it stands, it’s a rare no from me.
Highland Charm
Basketballer Jaylen Brown embodied effortless cool in a Louis Vuitton brown textured check oversized collarless jacket paired with black flared trousers. The highland charm of this look was undeniable, and Jaylen’s confident presence made the ensemble stand out.
Real Housewives Vibes
Despite my love for Elie Saab, Ashley Park’s look is reminiscent of ‘Real Housewives’ glam outing. The styling just didn’t land for me, and the look aged her.
Unfinished Elegance
Anna Sawai’s Tory Burch Spring 2025 ensemble, featuring a cotton jacquard top and jersey chiffon skirt, left me torn. The top was elegant, but the lower half of the skirt felt unfinished, and I struggled to fully get on board with the look. Cartier jewels completed her look.
1920s Hollywood Glamour
Adria Arjona channeled 1920s old Hollywood in her look, but it needed more commitment—particularly in the hair department—to truly sell the vintage vibe. The dress was stunning.
