Tuesday night saw a gathering of talent and style at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City for the 2024 WSJ Innovators Awards. With a blend of reimagined classics and bold new statements, these stars brought thoughtful twists to the evening’s red carpet, here is a look at the remaining notable looks.
Third Time’s a Charm
With this Balenciaga Fall 2024 strapless dress making rounds on Demi Moore and Katy Perry in blue, Salma Hayek’s custom red version added a fresh energy to the dramatic silhouette. Maison Boucheron jewels completed her look.
Legs for Days, Words for Thought
Emily Ratajkowski traded her usual focus on her décolletage and abs for a mini dress from JW Anderson’s Spring 2025 collection, featuring an essay by Clive Bell on art and design. This wasn’t just a mini; it was a piece of intellectual art that let her legs take center stage. Jimmy Choo ‘Minny’ sandals completed her look with minimalist sophistication.
Business in the Front, Party in the Back
I have a feeling that when Charli XCX put on this Saint Laurent black strapless dress, that her belief was, “since the back is looking this great, who cares about the front?”
And I can’t blame her choice for prioritising the dramatic back detail. Saint Laurent L’Entracte slingback pumps and DYNE jewels finished her look.
Been There, Done That, But Nailed It
Amelia Gray’s Saint Laurent striped skirt suit with its oversized blazer from the Fall 2023 collection looked sharp, but a bit too familiar as we have seen this style many times before, even in menswear. Despite the déjà vu, the impeccable styling kept it polished and sleek, even if it wasn’t the most groundbreaking look of the night.
Brown is the New Black
Aubrey Plaza opted for the on trend chocolate-hued wearing a Khaite dress, complemented by Santoni gold heels and an array of jewels from Eéra, Suzanne Kalan, and Yvonne Léon. This earth-toned palette struck just the right balance for fall.
Modern Classic
Reese Witherspoon’s Maticevski Rhythm dress felt like a fresh take on timeless elegance. Known for stepping outside of the box, Maticevski brought a subtle edge to this classic silhouette with the cascading ruffled details. Briony Raymond rings completed her look.
