After a few red carpet misses, Ciara’s appearance at the 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards in New York City on Monday felt like an attempt to reclaim her distinctive, avant-garde style.
For the event, she donned a Vera Wang Spring 2025 ensemble, consisting of a white ribbed tank top, a dramatic black gauntlet-style pegged skirt, and white leather opera gloves, topped off with Vera Wang Eyewear.
The look feels undeniably bold, with Ciara embracing Wang’s penchant for blending sleek minimalism with unexpected elements. But while I can appreciate the individual pieces of this look, there’s something that feels slightly disjointed in the final presentation. The juxtaposition of the ribbed tank—a piece known for its understated, casual appeal—with the opera-length gloves suggests two different style narratives competing with each other.
Then there’s the skirt which is perhaps too long, creating excess fabric gathering around the hips. If this skirt-trouser hybrid sat closer to her body, the look might have achieved that sought-after edge.
While this ensemble hints at a return to form for Ciara, blending some of her signature boldness, it feels as though the vision wasn’t fully realised for me.
