If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Ella Purnell’s red carpet style in 2024, it’s that embellished looks aren’t exactly her friends—or perhaps it’s just her selection of embellished outfits that haven’t quite worked in her favour. Either way, I was delighted to see her take a different direction for the ‘Sweetpea’ premiere in London on Monday.
The British actress wore a Givenchy red jersey asymmetrical bustier dress from the Fall 2024 collection, complete with knot detail and high-low hem that had just enough edge without any sequins, crystals, or baubles in sight.

That is because Daisy Edgar-Jones wore the silver runway version to the ‘Twister’ screening in Oklahoma City back in July. Despite the similarity, Ella ensured her moment was unique—even if this was a relatively low-key premiere—in this striking red hue.
Given the rainy weather in London, Ella made the wise choice of arriving in a Givenchy red leather double-breasted coat, adding practicality without sacrificing style. She completed her ensemble with a matching red leather nano Givenchy Voyou bag, balancing the tone of her outfit perfectly.
Interestingly, she chose to not finish the look with red footwear—instead opting for black leather Givenchy Beauw slingbacks.
All in all, this was a refreshing change for Ella Purnell—elegant, sleek, and free of the embellishments. It’s a minimalist look that truly worked in her favour, although, those of you who don’t like high-low hemlines will disagree.
