Nicki Minaj took center stage at the 2024 Vogue Forces of Fashion event, held at One World Trade Center in New York City on Wednesday. In a conversation with Eva Chen, Meta’s vice president of fashion, Nicki spoke about her Pink Friday 2 World Tour, now the highest-grossing rap tour for a female artist, along with motherhood and, of course, her relationship with fashion.
Nicki has long been known for her alter egos, which translate into bold, often theatrical red carpet moments. However, at this event, it felt like we were seeing a different side—perhaps a glimpse of Onika Maraj, rather than the larger-than-life rapper we usually expect.
Nicki’s outfit for the occasion struck a balance between sultry and sophisticated. She wore a navy blue asymmetric Alaïa fitted dress complemented by a Schiaparelli coat. The coat’s standout feature was Elsa Schiaparelli’s iconic measuring tape motif, a nod to the brand’s historical playfulness. While Nicki’s look was toned down compared to her usual, her oversized bracelets hinted at her love for statement-making accessories.
Her choice of simple black sandals and Schiaparelli’s gold mini Secret top-handle bag added a refined touch, grounding the look in elegance without compromising her personal style.
Also celebrated at the event was Olympic sprinter Gabby Thomas, who wore a Zankov Leigh striped knit dress. Much like Nicki, Gabby’s accessorized with gold trinkets, but Gabby’s reflected her accomplishments, as she proudly displayed three her gold medals from the 2024 Olympics (individually in the 200 m, and alongside her teammates in the 4 × 100 m relay and 4 × 400 m), combining personal style with professional achievements.
