Nicole Kidman graced the red carpet at the 2024 Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles, attending the event as Balenciaga’s brand ambassador, stepping out in a black open-back gown from Balenciaga’s Fall 2022 Haute Couture collection, styled with opera gloves.
There is no question that she delivered undeniable glamour with her sleek silhouette exuding old-Hollywood elegance—but is this starting to feel too familiar?
I love how the cut of the dress is so flattering, the opera gloves bring a vintage touch, and she embodies the elegance of Cristóbal Balenciaga (even though this was designed by Demna). But am I the only one who feels that a sense of déjà vu is creeping in. The silhouette of this gown echoes some of her recent Balenciaga looks, particularly from the Planet Omega Opening and ‘The Perfect Couple’ London premiere. It’s clear that black gowns have become a recurring theme in her partnership with the brand.
When Nicole steps outside her Balenciaga box, she tends to take more risks—experimenting with colour, texture, and embellishments. Whether she’s in vibrant hues or daring cuts, Nicole’s non-Balenciaga looks offer more variety and excitement. So, while her Academy Museum Gala appearance ticked all the boxes for polished glamour, I find myself hoping for a bit more from this Balenciaga x Kidman union in the future.
Nicole is no stranger to bold, playful fashion, and I’d love to see her bring that spirit back into her red-carpet with Balenciaga.
