Tyla Wore Gucci To The 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards

Tyla graced the 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City on Monday, stepping out in a Gucci by Tom Ford Spring 1996 black lace dress—a stunning archive piece that brings a bit of fashion history to the present. With the red carpet witnessing a renewed embrace of archival fashion, this nod to Tom Ford’s iconic Gucci era has a natural appeal, and Tyla indeed looked amazing in this dress.

However, placed alongside her recent red carpet choices, this look begins to feel like déjà vu. It follows a familiar formula that has started to define her style on high-profile stages.

This dress follows the same formula as her Area shredded dress and exposed green underwear worn to the VMAs. While daring, it’s starting to feel repetitive.

One can’t help but think this was the ideal event for her to break away from her signature look. The CFDA Awards celebrate innovation, design, and creative risks.

Here, Tyla had the opportunity to step out of her comfort zone and show a different side—something less VMAs, more CFDA. Instead, the choice to lean on familiar and didn’t push the boundaries, making her style start to feel a bit one-dimensional.

While she does look absolutely amazing, I want more variety. We’ve seen the lace, the exposure, the edgy allure, but fingers crossed she will pivot to something unexpected in the future.
