Zoe Saldana gets to the point at the 'Lioness' Season 2 Premiere

Zoe Saldana has been on a whirlwind of a week, from the ‘Emilia Pérez’ LA premiere, to celebrating her role in ‘Emilia Pérez’ to receiving the Groundbreaker Award at the Critics’ Choice Association’s Latino Cinema Celebration. But on Wednesday night, she shifted gears to attend the highly anticipated season two premiere of ‘Lioness’ at the Linwood Dunn Theater in Los Angeles.

With 402 photos of Zoe from this event on Getty, I dutifully sifted through each one.

Why? Because I was determined to find one picture that would keep her on the incredible run, but alas, I failed, because this Balmain Spring 2025 look isn’t great.

At first glance, there was so much promise in this tuxedo-inspired outfit. The cummerbund and exaggerated hips added a theatrical touch, and it’s certainly her most avant-garde look of the year — perhaps even since her unforgettable Givenchy Haute Couture gown at the 2010 Oscars. The skirt’s dramatic structure had the potential to cement her as a risk-taker.

But then there’s the silk top. It’s remarkable how one small detail can derail an otherwise strong outfit. On the runway, the top already seemed questionable, but on Zoe, it looked like it was coming undone. The fabric looks frayed, and rather than draping elegantly, it droops awkwardly. The sizing appears off too, making the top feel oversized and sloppy against the sharp lines of the skirt.

It’s disappointing because I wanted this to work. Zoe’s on a remarkable run, but I also hope that Zoe continues to take more risks like this in the future.
