Angelina Jolie made a rare red carpet appearance at the 2024 Governors Awards in Hollywood, accompanied by her youngest son, Knox Jolie-Pitt. For the occasion, she chose a ‘70s-inspired vintage gown sourced from The Kit Vintage—a look steeped in history and personal significance but one that left me with mixed feelings.
The gown, unbranded but undeniably vintage, came with a touching story shared by The Kit Vintage on Instagram. They celebrated Angelina as a genuine vintage enthusiast, noting how she personally curates each piece she wears without the guidance of a stylist or external opinions. As someone who loves a meaningful backstory, this adds a rich layer to her choice.
But even with all the heartwarming context, I’m not completely sold on this look for Angelina. While the gold tones of the dress carry a certain nostalgic charm, the fabric leans slightly dowdy, lacking in the charm we’ve come to expect from her.
The styling didn’t quite help matters either. The chunky silver necklace clashed with the gold hues of the gown, disrupting what could have been a more cohesive and harmonious moment. It’s almost as if the styling was an afterthought, which feels uncharacteristic for someone like Angelina, who usually delivers understated but impactful red carpet looks.
Of course, Angelina isn’t one to chase trends or go for the obvious, and there’s something admirable about that. However, I can’t help but hope she’s saving the jaw-dropping moments for the 2025 awards season.
For now, this vintage moment feels more meaningful than memorable. While I applaud the sentiment behind her choice, I’m eagerly awaiting the custom creations we know she can absolutely own.
