Today in Sydney, Ariana Grande joined co-stars Jeff Goldblum and Jonathan Bailey for a ‘Wicked’ photocall, following her premiere look which didn’t go down too well.
For this occasion Ariana’s outfit, a custom two-piece from Bode, invited a feeling of nostalgia, staying true to the designer’s sentimental touch and affinity for vintage textiles. This look doesn’t just nod to the past; it invites us to revel in it.
The strapless top, adorned with oversized bows, might feel excessive to some, and to a large degree, I agree. But then again, Ariana has rarely shied away from a heavy dose of OTT girlishness. She’s leaning into it here, making the ensemble feel very “on brand” for this press tour.
The exaggerated, ultra-feminine bows make a statement. They are playful, they are whimsical, and they are everything we have come to expect from Ariana. Plus, the addition of her custom white satin bow-accented Manolo Blahnik pumps feels like the perfect touch, tying together the look with a polished quality. It’s a bit theatrical, therefore fitting perfectly with the world of ‘Wicked’.
Rounding off the look, Ariana opted for a ballet bun rather than her signature ponytail, which was a refreshing change.
