On a wet night in London, Ariana Grande graced The Royal Festival Hall for the ‘Wicked’ premiere, but you wouldn’t have guessed the dreary weather by the way she lit up the red carpet. The singer-actress was an absolute vision in a lemon-yellow Ralph Lauren Collection custom silk gown, complete with a matching wrap that added an extra layer of elegance to her look.
“Finally, a colour other than pink!” I hear you say. And I’m right there with you. But before you cheer too loudly, know that this isn’t a random choice—yellow is the colour Glinda wears during her visit to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard in ‘One Short Day’.
For me, this is easily Ariana’s best look on this press tour so far. It leans into the fantastical, giving us a touch of the whimsical tulle-adjacent vibe I have been expecting, but without feeling overly Disney or veering into twee territory. It’s fairytale-esque without being too saccharine, which feels like a delicate balance perfectly struck here.
And while this yellow gown was a refreshing change, I can’t help but hope Ariana keeps the surprises coming. We’ve seen quite a bit of pink already on this tour, and while it’s undoubtedly thematic, two years of bubblegum hues could get tired very quickly.
If this lemon moment is anything to go by, though, we can only hope the rest of her press tour offers equally exciting departures. For now, let’s bask in this radiant moment.
