Dwayne Johnson, who returns to his role as the beloved demi-god Maui for the ‘Moana’ sequel, joined his co-star Auli’i Cravalho for the ‘Moana 2’ Hawaii and London premiere’s weekend.
Hawaiian World Premiere
Who says that menswear can’t be thematic? Dwayne Johnson rocked a bespoke Dolce & Gabbana single-breasted Sicilia-fit turquoise suit, paired with a matching Marcello-fit tank top, which was the perfect nod to the oceanic vibes of the event’s location and backdrop. The look was styled with brown Christian Louboutin Dandelion shoes, and a custom Jacob & Co. Matai Tourbillon timepiece.
The watch’s name, “Matai,” meaning “chief” in Samoan, symbolises Dwayne’s cultural heritage and leadership qualities. The timepiece drew inspiration from his tribal tattoo, echoing the themes of resilience and tradition that resonate both in his personal life and his ‘Moana’ character, Maui.
Just as Maui’s tattoos narrate his journey, Dwayne’s ink and the intricate design of the watch serve as tributes to his roots and his warrior spirit.
London Premiere
Transitioning from the sunny shores of Hawaii to the chillier climes of London, Dwayne maintained a connection to the islands with his outfit. He opted for a black AMIRI Pre-Fall 2024 jacket featuring a Twisted Palm tree print in a turquoise hue, bringing a subtle tropical flair to the grey streets of the UK capital.
While the Hawaiian-inspired look embraced vibrant, ocean-inspired tones, this outfit perfectly demonstrated how Dwayne can balance cultural nods with seasonal appropriateness.
Whether in a bold turquoise suit or a statement AMIRI jacket, Dwayne’s sartorial choices for the Moana 2 press tour celebrate his heritage and seamlessly connect to the film’s themes.
