Jenna Ortega started 2024 with light and airy looks, donning a Little White Dress for the Palm Springs Film Festival and a romantic floral gown for the Emmy Awards.
However, for the ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ press tour, she pivoted to a moodier aesthetic, perfectly aligned with the film’s darkly whimsical tone. From the very beginning, her looks captured my attention with playful nods to the original film and a thematic coherence that felt effortless yet intentional.
While a full blackout wardrobe seemed like the natural expectation—given the gothic undertones of ‘Beetlejuice’—Jenna surprised us by evolving her palette. The tour began with deep blacks but transitioned into rich reds and burgundies as it moved into Europe.
One surprising realisation while reflecting on this tour? The absence of New York or Los Angeles premieres. For a blockbuster of this scale, skipping such major cities is almost unheard of, but it made the press junket appearances feel even more significant.
Looking back at Jenna’s tour wardrobe, you’d expect the premiere looks to dominate my list of favourites, but the press junket outfits stood out as the real winners. There was a charm to these ensembles that made them hard to ignore.
Two looks in particular stole the show for me. First, the Dolce & Gabbana set, featuring a cropped jacket paired with a lace-insert skirt, which struck the perfect balance between sultry and playful. Then there was the Thom Browne schoolgirl-inspired ensemble, a delightfully cheeky take that combined Jenna’s youthful energy with the brand’s signature tailoring.
I will have to also give an honorary mention to her two tone Paul Smith suit from the Venice Film Festival.
This press tour wasn’t just about promoting a film; it was a masterclass in thematic dressing, with Jenna Ortega proving that even the darkest palettes can tell an evolving and captivating story.
