Jonathan Bailey continues to bring a distinct flair to the ‘Wicked’ press tour, joining co-stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande for premieres in Mexico City and New York. While his looks have showcased his penchant for blending classic tailoring with contemporary details, the results have been a mix of highs and near-misses.
Mexico City Premiere
Let’s start with Mexico City. As you know, I adore a cummerbund—it’s the epitome of elegance in menswear for me—but this Givenchy ensemble didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The white vest read as too casual. Had the vest been in a richer colour, like the rest of this look, I would have been on board with this look in its entirety.
New York Premiere
Now, for the New York premiere: this is where things took a significant turn for the better. Jonathan was back to his A-game in a custom Loewe suit that initially fooled me into thinking it was adorned with feathers (considering they made such an impact on Greta Lee’s 2024 Academy Museum Gala Loewe gown). However, the intricate detailing turned out to be made from hand-torn silk fabric—a stroke of brilliance, and texture. Paired with an OMEGA De Ville Prestige 27.5mm timepiece and Loewe Chelsea boots, the look epitomised elegance with a twist, perfectly aligning with Jonathan’s red carpet signature style.
This Loewe moment, alongside his Dolce & Gabbana suit from the Sydney premiere, is tied for my favourite from this tour. Both looks have that creative edge we’ve come to expect from him.
