Tilda Swinton graced the 2024 Governors Awards red carpet in Los Angeles on Sunday, and it feels like a much-needed return to form. Wearing a striking red gown from Standing Ground’s Spring 2025 collection, Tilda delivered a look that made us forget the misstep that was her Chanel Haute Couture moment at the San Sebastián Film Festival.
Let’s be honest: her press tour for ‘The Room Next Door’ was slightly underwhelming. But this gathered red dress feels like a return to form. The gown, designed by Michael Stewart Dunne, showcases why he’s this year’s LVMH Prize winner. Known for creating modern pieces tailored to the body’s unique form, Dunne’s craftsmanship is evident here. Tilda’s statuesque presence is amplified, and the draping creates the illusion of an unexpected hourglass silhouette.
Tilda’s hair is always integral to her red carpet impact, and this sleek, modern mohawk is no exception. The slightly androgynous style brings an edge to the elegance of her ensemble, perfectly balancing boldness and sophistication. This hairstyle is undeniably my favourite, and it reinforces why Tilda is so revered as a red carpet chameleon.
Her choice of accessories kept the focus on the dress: silver pumps added a subtle shine, while a complementary red lip tied the whole look together.
Tilda Swinton may not have been consistent in 2024, but when she does get it right, I’m always blown away.
