Beyonce Wore Balmain To The 'Mufasa: The Lion King' LA Premiere

The Los Angeles premiere of Disney’s ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ was held at the Dolby Theatre on Monday in Hollywood, with Beyonce reprising her role as Nala from the 2019 The Lion King live-action remake. Naturally, her presence was nothing short of regal, fitting for the queen she portrays on screen.

Beyonce wore a strapless, bust-structured column gown from the Disney x Balmain: The Lion King collection, designed by Olivier Rousteing. The black gown, enriched with golden polka dots made of brass metal leaves, felt like an evolution of her gold-themed look from the 2019 London premiere. Gold, after all, holds significant symbolism for this story—a beacon of royalty, power, and legacy.

This gown was giving golden goddess. It was giving Queen of the Night. It was giving everything from the neckline to the hemline. But then I saw the black Jimmy Choo Dahl platforms, and my enthusiasm hit a speed bump. An ankle-strap shoe with this dress? With that slit? They had no place here, but I didn’t allow it to kill the overall vibe for me.

Beyonce undeniably has the aura, the presence, and the command. However, she doesn’t always deliver red-carpet perfection. This time, she delivered—but only from the ankles up.

The gown itself was a striking statement, capturing the spirit of ‘The Lion King’ and the grandeur we expect from Beyonce. While the shoe choice might have left me puzzled, the rest of the look was a powerful reminder of her star wattage.

‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ opens exclusively in theaters on December 20, 2024. If the premiere is any indication, the queen has set the stage for yet another majestic chapter in this enduring saga.
