Chloe Sevigny attended the 47th Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, DC, on Sunday, wearing her third Saint Laurent look in a row. And while I’ve been rooting for her recent sartorial choices, I’m sad to say this was my least favourite.
To Chloe’s credit, I completely understand why she was drawn to this Saint Laurent white long-sleeve lace and silk dress. It possesses a certain old-world charm that Chloe occasionally gravitates toward. The romanticism, the delicacy, the vintage-inspired aesthetic—it’s all very much in her wheelhouse.
However, my immediate thought was how a wedding dress passed down through generations can sometimes feel… tired. The kind of tired that hits when, despite the sentimentality, you realise the gown hasn’t quite aged as gracefully as you hoped.
For me, the issue lies in the tone of the bodice and the lace. The muted colour and overly intricate detailing are what give this look its dated vibe.
I wanted this to be so much better for her. Truly. After hitting her stride again with her recent Saint Laurent looks, this dress feels like a misstep.
Some might feel that in this dress that she did in-fact find her groove again, delivering that effortless cool-girl energy she’s known for. But for me, this look feels like it’s caught in a time warp. I’m hoping this is a temporary detour because Chloë is at her best when she’s mixing vintage allure with a contemporary twist.
