Cynthia Erivo attended the SAG Awards Season Celebration on Thursday night at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, wearing a look that felt perfectly tailored to her current chapter as Elphaba.
The British actress chose a black silk charmeuse and red sequin-embroidered lace gown from Rodarte’s Fall 2023 collection, and it felt like a match made in witchy heaven.
Rodarte’s Fall 2023 collection is steeped in vampy, gothic, and witchy aesthetics — making it an apt choice for Cynthia, who will be on ‘Wicked’ duty until November 2025 when the second installment of the film is released. Unlike Timothée Chalamet’s method-heavy styling for ‘A Complete Unknown,’ Cynthia’s look is a subtle nod to her character while keeping fashion at the forefront.
And that’s the key difference. This isn’t a costume, it’s a considered choice. It’s an acknowledgment of her role, without being literal. The black silk charmeuse adds a sultry elegance, while the red sequins bring just the right amount of drama.
The softer makeup balances out the dark glamour of the dress, but the nails? The nails are where the extravagance remains. They’re getting longer and more intricate with each appearance, and I can’t say I’m mad about it considering it has helped her branch out with a collaboration with OPI.
Now that the ‘Wicked’ press tour has slowed down, it feels like Cynthia is back to her groove when it comes to event dressing. There’s no over-explanation here, no heavy-handed references. Just a stunning gown that plays to her strengths while adding a little edge.
This is how you nod to a role without letting it overshadow your fashion moment. It’s subtle, it’s striking, and it’s very Cynthia.
