Fresh off her whirlwind press tour for ‘The Agency,’ Jodie Turner-Smith graced The Fashion Awards in London on Monday night with her signature flair. However, while her red carpet looks often leave us in awe, this outing left me with mixed emotions.
Jodie wore a breathtakingly glamorous Burberry gown—a cream creation embellished with intricate detailing that screamed opulence. It’s the kind of gown that deserves to be the sole focus of the look, drawing attention to its artistry and her undeniable presence.
But then came the coat.
I understand London’s freezing temperatures in December demand practicality, but the brown pony hair coat felt out of place. Too normy for the grandeur of the gown, it lacked the drama or synergy needed to elevate this ensemble. Instead, it served as a distraction from what could have been an unforgettable moment.
And we can’t overlook the bag. The accessories, while perhaps intentional, gave the look a sense of incongruity. It brought to mind Sarah Jessica Parker’s styling ethos: a fabulous outfit grounded by styling choices that make you pause. Except here, it didn’t quite land.
Jodie is never one to shy away from bold choices, and for that, I’ll always appreciate her. But in this instance, I wish she’d leaned fully into the luxury of the gown without the coat’s interruption.
Still, Jodie being Jodie, she wore it all with undeniable confidence. And let’s be honest, her poise can carry even the most puzzling of pairings. Yet, I can’t help but wonder how this look might have resonated without the coat weighing it down—literally and metaphorically.
