Monica Barbaro attended the Contenders screening for ‘A Complete Unknown’ at the Museum of Modern Art on Saturday in New York City, embracing the bold shoulder trend with a Schiaparelli Spring 2025 look.
At first glance, this outfit might seem like an LBD, but there’s much more going on here. The ensemble features a short-sleeved cardigan with exaggerated shoulders, adorned with hammered gold brass bijoux buttons, paired with cycling shorts featuring the brand’s signature Keyhole rivet detail on the back.
For those not enamoured by cycling shorts as a red carpet choice, the black leather saddle belt with its gold brass buckle serves as a clever distraction. Some might have preferred to see the two-piece look without the belt, but I think it ties the outfit together. And let’s just be grateful that no navel chains were thrown into this mix.
The outfit was completed with Schiaparelli’s signature Keyhole-detailed pumps, creating a cohesive, avant-garde look.
While this wouldn’t have been my immediate pick for Monica, I’m pleasantly surprised by how well she pulls it off.
What I appreciate most about Monica’s press tour is how unpredictable her style choices have been. She’s proven time and again that her looks can’t be pigeonholed.
