If you’re anything like me, your reaction to seeing Natalie Portman attending Apple TV+’s ‘Lady In The Lake’ photocall at SAG-AFTRA on Monday in Los Angeles was, “wait, what?”
We all know Natalie as the ultimate face of Dior.
Sure, she’ll step out in other labels on occasion and excite us when she gravitates toward her second-favourite colour, red. But this Schiaparelli Spring 2025 dress, with its explosion of colourful sequins and floral appliqués, would not have been on my red carpet bingo card for Natalie Portman. If we’re being honest, this look feels like it was made for Zendaya.
It feels so far left of field for Natalie, which is precisely why I can’t stop thinking about it. The boldness of the design feels like it’s pulling Natalie into a new sartorial chapter—one where whimsy and playfulness take center stage. It’s exciting to see her in something that genuinely surprises me, even if I still feel like I need a moment to process it.
That said, I wish the hair was softer. The blunt bob, while sleek and on-trend, feels a bit stern against the effervescent energy of this playful mini dress. Imagine a looser wave or even a soft updo.
This is a look that makes you stop and question your assumptions about Natalie’s red carpet style. Whether you love it or not, you can’t deny the element of surprise—and that’s half the fun.
