To say I was underwhelmed by The Fashion Awards 2024 red carpet would be an understatement. It wasn’t even close to the high bar set last year—or the years before that. But amidst a sea of mediocrity, one bright spark stood out: Nicola Coughlan.
Surprisingly, this was her debut at this annual event, and what a debut it was.
I’ll admit, I’ve always had a soft spot for Nicola. I always have, and I probably always will. But even if I didn’t, there’s no denying the grace she exuded in this custom Gaurav Gupta Couture gown.
If you look at Gaurav Gupta’s Spring 2024 Couture runway, you can see the inspiration from look five. However, I adore how this gown evolved into something uniquely Nicola. With its black velvet core column gown and dramatic blue taffeta shell, it pays a subtle homage to the Regency-era drama of ‘Bridgerton’ while delivering a sculptural silhouette that feels modern and fresh. This gown isn’t just a dress; it’s a masterpiece.
She brought elegance, drama, and artistry to an event that, frankly, lacked it elsewhere. If I remember one thing from this year’s Fashion Awards, it won’t be the disappointments—it will be Nicola Coughlan. And that, I think, says it all.
It’s also been an incredible year for Nicola. From captivating us with her ‘Bridgerton’ Season 3 leading-lady press tour to starring in a SKIMS ad campaign, she has truly had a moment in 2024. If this is to be her last red carpet look of the year, it’s a high note to end on.
