Renate Reinsve attended the 2024 European Film Awards at the Lucerne Culture and Congress Centre in Switzerland on Saturday, where she was nominated in the European Actress category. Despite losing out to Karla Sofía Gascón in ‘Emilia Pérez,’ the Norwegian actress still turned heads on the red carpet.
Renate wore a custom Louis Vuitton embroidered black tulle and lace cutout dress featuring a solid white drape cascading down one side. The look promised the kind of avant-garde elegance Renate is known for carrying so effortlessly. She’s the woman who can pull off 95% of Nicolas Ghesquière’s designs, after all.
But this dress? It falls into that elusive 5%.
While the cutout design and bold white drape fit the cutting-edge aesthetic we expect from Louis Vuitton, the lace felt at odds with the overall concept. The clash between the delicate, vintage feel of the lace and the futuristic silhouette of the dress created a jarring disconnect for me.
However, I wouldn’t mind seeing this revisited with two solid colours, or even a different fabric, and this could have been a moment. The dress had potential, but it didn’t quite land the way it should have, but seeing how the dress looked on video, I have a feeling this might have been better in person.
