Ariana Grande at The National Board of Review Gala

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo took center stage at the National Board of Review Gala on Tuesday, where they were honoured with the NBR Spotlight Award for creative collaboration in Wicked. While their styles diverged, both stars aligned in their choice of Loewe for the evening, showcasing the label’s flair for custom creations.

A nod to the past

Ariana Grande leaned into her retro aesthetic with a custom baby pink satin duchess column gown featuring an open-back detail that immediately brought to mind Anne Hathaway’s 2013 Prada Oscar dress—thanks to the prominent darts. The addition of a matching satin shawl further amplified the old-Hollywood vibe, though thankfully, she skipped opera gloves this time. Loewe Toy pumps in white completed the look. Ariana’s affinity for vintage-inspired glamour continues, but this feels like a more refined step forward.

A Loewe breakthrough moment?

It’s fair to say that Loewe’s Spring 2025 dresses with the boning structure haven’t won many fans—not even Gal Gadot managed to sell them. However, Cynthia Erivo’s custom feather-printed sheer chiffon gown is easily the best version I’ve seen so far. The absence of the visible internal structure is what truly elevates this look. Do you agree? Add to that Cynthia’s innate ability to make almost anything work, and you have a standout moment.
