Christian Lacroix Is Acquired by Sociedad Texil Lonia

Christian Lacroix has a new owner.

Sociedad Textil Lonia, a Spanish textile manufacturing and design firm, has acquired 100 percent of the French house. The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Through the transaction, Christian Lacroix will become stablemates with Spanish label Purificación García, which SLT acquired in 1998, and Carolina Herrera diffusion line CH Carolina Herrera, with which SLT has a long-term licensing agreement.

With the acquisition of Christian Lacroix, SLT hopes to cement its presence in high fashion.

French couturier Christian Lacroix founded his namesake label in 1987 with the backing of luxury conglomerate LVMH. It went on to be celebrated for its theatrical collections. In the 1990s, however, the business began to stall as minimalism became mainstream. LVMH sold the brand in 2005 to Falic Group, a duty-free retailer, which had plans to revive the label, but the reboot was unsuccessful and Christian Lacroix was put into administration in 2009.

Lacroix, who now designs hotel interiors and costumes for ballet and the opera, will not be formally involved with the brand in an official capacity.

“We will do everything we can to ensure the unique talent of its creator and his invaluable contribution to the fashion world reach their full potential,” the company said in a statement.
