If you’re anything like me, you’ve watched Wicked and are eagerly counting down the days until the second instalment arrives in November 2025. The film was captivating with its reimagining of Oz, and the fashion from the press tour was just as spellbinding.
Cynthia Erivo’s press tour for Wicked was nothing short of a masterclass in character commitment. Starting with a striking nod to Elphaba’s iconic green at Super Bowl LVIII in February and the 2024 Oscars in March, Cynthia painted the red carpet green (and black) in a way that no one else could. She seamlessly incorporated shades of emerald and onyx into her wardrobe, celebrating her character’s duality with designs mostly from Louis Vuitton.
Her final green gown from Carolina Herrera at the Red Film Festival in late 2024 felt like the perfect full-circle moment before she closed the year in a gothic yet ethereal Rodarte gown.
While some found the thematic dedication tiresome, I love the variety and creativity she brought to the table. What could’ve been a predictable and monotonous press tour turned into a thrilling sartorial journey that matched the magic of the movie itself. For me, it was a visual spectacle that proved the films hype was well-deserved.
My personal favorites from Cynthia Erivo’s Wicked press tour included her chic nod to both leading ladies in Emilia Wickstead, the Louis Vuitton ensemble for the Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony, and the rerun of her Louis Vuitton coat for the New York screening. The green vinyl Louis Vuitton look for the LA premiere was a bold standout, while the Schiaparelli Haute Couture moment in London exuded high drama. However, the Carolina Herrera gown she wore for the Red Sea International Film Festival Opening Ceremony was, without a doubt, the crowning glory of the tour.
