Laverne Cox Wore Alexander McQueen To The 'Clean Slate' New York Screening

Laverne Cox knows how to make an entrance, and at the Clean Slate screening at the Crosby Street Hotel in New York City, she did just that—in the most Laverne way possible.

We all know and love Laverne as a true fashion girlie. She doesn’t just wear clothes—she understands fashion as history, as expression, as art. And once again, she proved that she’s not just following trends, she’s setting the tone.

For the event, Laverne stepped out in a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen Spring 2024 leather cut-out corset from the designers final show, a collection dedicated to the late, great Lee Alexander McQueen, whose wish was always to empower women. If that’s not the definition of Laverne’s energy, I don’t know what is.

But she didn’t just wear the corset—she made it her own. Styled with tights and a billowing velvet cape, she brought the kind of theatricality that makes a look unforgettable. Anyone can wear a runway piece straight from the collection, but Laverne understands that true style is about interpretation. And this interpretation? It’s bold, unapologetic, and so very her.

That being said… I have to be honest. The one element I can’t get on board with? The erased eyebrows. I know it’s a thing, I know it’s avant-garde, but I just struggle to get on board with it.

Earlier in the day, Laverne made a guest appearance on CBS Good Morning, but before heading into the studio, she couldn’t resist posing next to the billboard promoting her new comedy series. And of course, she did it in style—wearing yet another Alexander McQueen piece from her personal archives (aka her closet).

This time, she pulled out a gem from the Pre-Fall 2009 collection: the iconic “wiggle dress.” With its dramatic puff sleeves and striking red floral embroidery, this Dickensian London-inspired design is a true standout. McQueen himself described the collection as having “a Dickensian opium den feeling”—which, in a way, feels fitting for Laverne. She’s always been one to embrace the theatrical, the dramatic, and the bold. Whether she’s on screen or on the red carpet, she knows how to captivate, making every moment feel like a performance, in the best possible way.
