The 2025 WWD Style Awards in Los Angeles served as the perfect prelude to tomorrow’s Golden Globes. The event celebrated Tracee Ellis Ross, the Fashion Trailblazer, and Anna Sawai, the Fashion Newcomer, with a host of celebrities showcasing their red carpet style. From daring designs to subtle elegance, here’s a breakdown of who wore what.
The Dress deserved a spotlight
Lisa Rinna doesn’t usually catch my eye, but her Wiederhoeft Spring 2025 ivory embellished and appliquéd cold-shoulder dress deserved a spotlight. The intricate detailing has me mesmerised, even though I don’t think that blonde wig was the right call for this dress.
Chevron with a Twist
Brianne Howey’s multi-coloured Missoni sequin chevron-print gown might seem underwhelming at first glance. But turn her around, and the open back transforms the dress into something far more captivating. The modest front contrasts beautifully with the unexpected allure of the back. Sometimes, it’s all about the details.
Ruffles and Romance
Charlotte Lawrence’s Valentino Spring 2025 green ruffled chiffon gown was a whimsical choice. Styled with a Valentino Garavani Carry Secrets minaudiere and Maison H jewels, the look was charming. The soft, ethereal vibe suited Charlotte perfectly.
Corduroy Cool
Darren Barnet opted for a Canali grey corduroy suit styled with a green cashmere sweater. The combination was polished yet relaxed, perfectly aligned with his understated style. David Yurman accessories added a touch of luxury to the look.
Youthful Elegance
Elizabeth Olsen wore a youthful Chanel look that was a refreshing departure from her usual mature style. The ensemble felt vibrant, but the shoes were a letdown. For such a chic outfit, the footwear needed to be more refined. I’m hoping the Chanel moment will deliver from head to toe.
Effortlessly Chic
Justine Lupe brought subtle elegance in her Simkhai Kally one-shoulder draped midi dress. The Everest green shade was striking, while the thigh-high slit added a touch of allure. The intricate gathering on the dress gave it dimension.
Bright and Bold
Kathryn Newton brought bright colours to the event in her Carolina Herrera pink and orange pailette mini dress. Metallic fuchsia pumps elevated the look, perfectly complementing the playful palette. This outfit was youthful, fun, and packed with personality. It’s always a delight to see Kathryn embrace bold hues.
A Break from Prada
Kelvin Harrison Jr. took a detour from his usual Prada in a Maison Margiela double-breasted suit. Cartier accessories and Scarosso shoes rounded out the sophisticated look. The change was refreshing, showing his versatility in tailoring. Kelvin continues to set a high bar for men’s fashion.
Winter Miss
Madison Bailey’s Salih Balta dress in a wintery brown hue left much to be desired. The dress lacked the sophistication we know Madison can deliver. It came across as cheap, which is a shame considering her potential. Madison can—and should—do much better.
Relaxed Refinement
Nicholas Hoult showcased his laidback style credentials at the event. His look was understated yet undeniably cool, reflecting his new knack for casual elegance. While not groundbreaking, it suited his vibe perfectly. Nicholas continues to balance comfort with style effortlessly
Slinky Sensation
Praya Lundberg turned heads in a slinky Tom Ford halter dress. The keyhole detail added just the right amount of drama to the look. The gown’s sleek silhouette and subtle glamour were pure Tom Ford. This was a standout moment for Praya.
Blue Belle
Quinta Brunson wore a Carolina Herrera blue strapless midi dress accented with a gold skinny belt. Matching her Christian Louboutin Kate pumps to the dress was a thoughtful touch. The rich colour and classic silhouette were perfectly suited to Quinta.
