RevitaLash Advanced Eyelash Conditioner

The best eyelash growth serums help your lashes look so full that you won’t need layers of mascara or falsies. How does it work? The formulas hydrate, condition, and fortify lash structure against breakage, and help them grow longer than they typically would before shedding during a normal hair growth cycle, says Diane Hilal-Campo, MD, a board-certified ophthalmologist in Oakland, New Jersey. And our testers say they really do work—as long as you’re patient and consistent with application.

To help you narrow in on the ones that really deliver those Hollywood lashes, we put more than a dozen of the most popular, dermatologist-recommended products to the test. Our team of reviewers dutifully swiped them on each day, taking notes on ease of use and overall efficacy. We saw incredible results with RevitaLash and Latisse (though the latter requires a prescription to use), but were similarly impressed with over-the-counter options like GrandeLash-MD and Lumify that made our testers’ natural lashes thick, full, and dark. Below, find the best lash growth serums from our trials (most of which actually double as eyebrow serums, too).

The best eyelash growth serums, at a glance

How we chose the best eyelash growth serums

We followed dermatologist recommendations to test our serums. If the serum contained hormones (prostaglandin analogs) and promised to increase lash length, then our tester used the product for at least 12 weeks to see results. The same testing minimum was applied to peptide-based serums that claimed to reduce breaking and shedding. Lash serums that focused more on conditioning and hydration (instead of growth) and that were hormone-free were tested for four weeks. The tester applied the serum daily (or twice daily, depending on the product’s directions) during that period, and evaluated it based on ease of use, effectiveness, how long it lasted before running out, and value.

  • What we love: Rapidly grows new lashes; curling; long-lasting; doesn’t irritate sensitive eyes
  • What could improve: Pricey (though a little goes a long way)

Formulated to accommodate sensitive eyes, this beauty product was actually developed by a physician for his wife when she was undergoing cancer treatment. It has a peptide complex that strengthens and softens the lashes, and it’s the only formula on the market that also give lashes a built-in curl—allowing you to lay off the curler and keep lashes that much healthier. The product also happens to be the one that Meghan Markle “swears” by.

Our tester says she understands why. “I’ve always been self-conscious of my short, straight natural lashes,” says Glamour commerce editor Malia Griggs. “I’ve spent decades chasing the eyelash curler or lash lift that might change that, and I’ve tried conditioning lash serums, but RevitaLash finally made my dreams come true. Every night, I swipe it along my lash line before bed (kind of like eyeliner). I’ve done this for the last eight months now, and it is wild how much fuller and plentiful my lashes are now—they look fake! I started seeing real results after around six weeks. I get compliments on my lashes all the time now, and I love how much more awake my face looks, even without makeup on. My lashes are so long that I’m almost concerned they’re too long (they’re not, right?). I have sensitive skin, especially in my eye area, but I’ve never developed any of the side effects like irritation that I’ve read—and worried—about. I’m also a huge fan of the value of this product; it took seven months of daily use for me to finally need a new tube. In a world where a lash lift requires a monthly spa stop and runs up a $100 bill without actually giving me new hair, there’s no question that this serum feels a far better deal.”

  • What we love: Strengthens and conditions; can be used on both lashes and brows; pregnancy-safe; vegan
  • What could improve: Won’t lengthen lashes

She’s vegan and she’s grace—she’s Miss Kosas GrowPotion. This versatile serum can be used to condition both the lashes and brows with its soft, padded applicator. Its combination of peptides, vegan keratin, and B5 moisturize lashes. Though its formula won’t actually stimulate new growth, it can help protect against lash breakage, retain your existing ones longer, and make them overall shinier and healthier. This was enough for our tester to feel like her lashes wound up looking thicker after three months of daily use.

Glamour commerce writer Alanna Martine Kilkeary praised GrowPotion’s light consistency and conditioning properties. “It wasn’t until this past fall that I started noticing lash loss and thinness, so I decided to test out this vegan lash serum formula. I’ve used serums in the past but found that they made my lashes grow too much, to the point where they were crossing over one another, so I was definitely hesitant,” she says. “But after using this for a few weeks, I was majorly impressed. The formula is super lightweight and isn’t too sticky or goopy. Instead, it glides right onto the lash line and absorbs quickly. I used this for about two months and saw some major results—you can see in my before image (taken in October), my lash hairs looked very separated and sparse. Cut to December when I could finally say I achieved a real lash fringe. I also love how gentle the formula is and that it’s packed with good-for-your-skin ingredients like vitamin B5 and hyaluronic acid.”

  • What we love: Only FDA-approved growth serum; works quickly; thickens lashes
  • What could improve: Requires a prescription; runs out quickly; cannot be used while pregnant

The big advantage for Latisse, the only FDA-approved treatment for fuller or thicker lashes, is that the results are proven. “It has side effects, but if you lost lashes due to hormonal changes or chemotherapy, or want to use it temporarily, you will see a good effect,” says Ashley Brissette, MD, a board-certified ophthalmologist at Weill Cornell Medicine and founder of the eye care brand Daily Practice. The drawback is that you have to see a health care provider for a prescription (although, you can virtually get one on a platform like Ro or Good Rx Care).
