A chic déjà vu with a twist

Fresh off her 2025 SAG Awards triumph—both in terms of that win and that stunning red carpet moment—Anna Sawai wasted no time getting back into the fashion spotlight at the TIME Women of the Year Gala held in West Hollywood on Tuesday.

Are you’re getting a sense of déjà vu? That might be due to the fact that Anna once again leaned into the timeless black-and-white combo, just like she did at the 2024 Time100 Next Gala. But this time, she looked to Ashlyn’s Fall 2025 collection, proving that she has her finger on the pulse of fresh-off-the-runway fashion.

But here’s the thing—when I say “fresh,” I mean really fresh. So fresh that it didn’t even have time to hit the tailor. The cocoon-shaped skirt? A dream in theory, but in execution, it was too big and too long. And when a sculptural skirt doesn’t hit the intended length, we get those pesky dents.

That said, I still love this look on Anna. There’s something undeniably playful and effortlessly cool about it, especially for a gala.

Tailoring hiccup aside, Anna continues to serve up fashion girl of the moment energy. What do we think—skirt setback or still a slay?
