Anya Taylor-Joy, who hosted SNL back in 2021, made her return for the SNL50: The Anniversary Special at 30 Rockefeller Center on Sunday—and let’s just say, she understood the assignment.
You know how I feel about Anya. She’s a storyteller through and through, and that narrative extends to her wardrobe. Enter this luminous gold silk jacket from Thierry Mugler’s Fall 1995 Haute Couture collection. This wasn’t just a fashion moment—it was a performance. With its nipped waist, dramatic peplum, and high-arcing collar, the piece oozes Mugler’s signature architectural drama. It’s Couture with a capital “C,” and if anyone can carry that weight, it’s Anya.
Now, I can already hear some of you whispering, “Doesn’t it feel a little… dated?” But I think that’s exactly the point. Anya didn’t come to deliver a modern twist—she came to revel in the nostalgia of a bygone era, one that feels even more vintage than the ‘90s origin of this masterpiece.
Keeping the focus on the jacket, which is a bit roomy in the cup area, she paired it with a simple black velvet maxi skirt and finished the look with Tiffany & Co. jewels.
Dramatic. Decadent. Divine. Would you expect anything less from Anya?
2025 is shaping up to be the year of the archive look.
