The 2025 Costume Designers Guild Awards in Los Angeles brought together a mix of drama, dazzle, and a few unexpected fashion moments. With stars like Zoe Saldana, Colman Domingo, and Janelle Monáe in attendance, the night was guaranteed to be a feast for fashion lovers. But beyond the headliners, there were plenty of looks to discuss—some stunning, some polarising, and at least one that left us asking, why even bother?
Making Waves in Lever Couture
Mindy Kaling floated onto the red carpet in a Lever Couture gown from the label’s Leleka Tokyo collection. If the ethereal mesh fabric treated to resemble flowing water looks familiar, it’s because Heidi Klum has practically been the brand’s unofficial ambassador. The off-the-shoulder detail, cascading train, and airy feel made this a dreamy choice.

Thom Browne, but Make It Wearable
Kathryn Hahn took a Thom Browne Fall 2024 Couture creation and distilled it into something much more… digestible. The runway version, with its exaggerated silhouettes, may have been a bit much for even the most daring dressers, so staying in her comfort zone worked in her favour.

A+ from the ankles up
Gladiator II actress Connie Nielsen sparkled in a sequined silver blazer embroidered with florals, paired with a signature school-uniform-inspired shirt and skirt from the Thom Browne Fall 2024 Couture collection. It was a striking choice… until the shoes. The black footwear clashed with the magic happening above the ankles. Even the quirky dog-shaped bag felt more at home than those pumps.

Gilded Glamour
Quinta Brunson delivered wearing a RAISA VANESSA Spring 2025 gold flower-embroidered crystal-detailed fringed halter gown. It was pure Old Hollywood meets modern-day sparkle, and she wore it beautifully.

Nobody wanted this
The Nobody Wants This actress Justine Lupe arrived in a basic black suit. While minimalist can be chic, this felt more like a boardroom look than a red carpet moment, especially at this event.

Cutouts and colour? Jackie came to play
Jackie Tohn was not to be missed in this Pamella Roland Pre-Fall 2025 blue and white embroidered gown with cutouts. It was fresh, fun, and she wore it well.
