Danielle Deadwyler took home the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in The Piano Lesson at the 16th Annual African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) Awards on Wednesday in Beverly Hills.
Wearing a Gia Studios Resort 2025 look, Danielle served up an ensemble that had one half of me swooning and the other half slightly puzzled. The ivory skirt? Absolutely stunning. The structure, the fabric, the cummerbund inspiration, the effortless elegance—it was all working. But then, we move up to the semi-sheer white tank top, and that’s where I have mixed feelings.
I get what this look was aiming for—a relaxed, effortless approach to modern elegance—but instead, it felt like the top and the skirt were having two different conversations. The bottom half was ready for a chic, high-fashion moment, while the top half looked like it was heading to a casual brunch.
A selection of diamonds added a touch of sparkle, but I can’t help but wish the top had matched the refinement of the skirt.
