On Tuesday morning, Mindy Kaling cemented her legacy—literally—as she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, making history as the first South Asian woman to be honoured with this distinction. A moment as monumental as this called for a look worthy of the occasion, and Mindy delivered with a black velvet dress from The New Arrivals by İlkyaz Özel.
Opting for classic black was a smart choice—when she looks back at these photos years from now, they’ll still feel just as chic and elegant. But what really took this look to the next level was the dramatic contrast of the puffy taffeta hemline, which added just the right amount of flair. It gave the whole ensemble a sculptural quality that made her look even more statuesque, fitting for a woman being immortalised in Hollywood history.

Embellished Jimmy Choo Saeda pumps may have complemented her dazzling jewels from Dena Kemp, Lablove, and Rahaminov Diamonds, but I don’t feel that they were the right choice for the length of the dress.
However, Mindy’s look was still refined, sophisticated, and undeniably glamorous. A well-deserved celebration of an incredible talent, and a fashion moment worthy of the spotlight.
