The House of Chanel had a strong presence at the 2025 Oscars, dressing five celebrities in looks that paid homage to the brand’s archives while delivering varying degrees of success. From dramatic vintage references to delicate embellishments, each look carried that unmistakable Chanel essence—but did they all hit the mark?
Serving something different—finally!
Much has been said (especially by me) about Margaret Qualley’s Chanel looks often blending into one another. Tweed? Check. Pastel? Check. So, you can imagine my relief when she stepped out in something different: a custom black velvet gown inspired by the Chanel Spring 2005 collection. The luxurious fabric gave the dress a regal elegance, while the simplicity of the silhouette kept it modern.

And can we talk about that Chanel High Jewelry Motif Russe necklace draping down her back? A stunning finishing touch. Honestly, this might just be one of her best Chanel moments to date.

A pearl-encrusted dream, but where’s the colour?
Lupita Nyong’o never disappoints, and this custom Chanel creation was no exception. Her pleated ivory charmeuse dress, featuring an intricate resille bustier embroidered with silver crystal bugle beads, pearls, and an ivory satin belt, was inspired by the Chanel Spring 1991 Haute Couture collection. It was undeniably beautiful, with every detail dripping in sophistication.

But here’s the thing: I’m ready to see her in some colour from this Chanel partnership. She wears white well, but imagine this look in a rich jewel tone.

Bringing the drama
Lily-Rose Depp was all about sultry glamour in her custom Chanel Haute Couture black floral lace halter dress. The peplum, embroidered with sequins, crystals, and pearls in a camellia motif, added just the right amount of drama. If there was ever a time for a va-va-voom Chanel moment, this was it.

The Motif Russe necklace from Chanel High Jewelry was the cherry on top of a look that felt both classic and modern.
You may remember that Dua Lipa wore the runway version of this dress when she was co-star for the 2023 Met Gala.

A rare Chanel triumph for Penelope Cruz
Penelope Cruz and Chanel have had a long-standing relationship, which has frustrated us most of the time. Thankfully, this custom white silk chiffon dress, entirely draped and embellished with jeweled buttons, gave us the glamour moment we’ve been waiting for. Inspired by the Chanel Spring 1992 Haute Couture collection, the dress exudes Old Hollywood elegance. The only thing I’d change?

Her hair. A sleek updo would have let the details shine even more. Some may call this look dated, but I’d argue it’s timeless.

Ending on a high note
Fernanda Torres might have flown under the radar this awards season, but she certainly made her mark at the Oscars. Wearing her most striking look to date, she dazzled in a Chanel Spring 2025 Haute Couture dress adorned with feathers and jeweled buttons, paired with the same guipure jacket we saw on the runway. It was a bold, high-fashion choice—one that ensured she wouldn’t go unnoticed on Hollywood’s biggest night.
