Cynthia Erivo was the well-deserved recipient of the Stephen F. Kolzak Award at the GLAAD Media Awards in Beverly Hills, and while her talent and advocacy were in the spotlight, her fashion moment had its own subtle power.
After an awards season filled with dramatic black ensembles, Cynthia kept the colour streak going in a Dior Spring 2025 one-shoulder black dress, cinched at the waist with a sleek leather belt. Now, I know what you’re thinking—this is quite restrained for someone known for pushing fashion boundaries. Some might find it a little tame for her, while others might appreciate that she’s conserving some of that theatrical flair for Wicked: Part Two later this year.

But let’s not mistake simplicity for forgettable, because the true star of this look was hanging from her arm: the Dior Lady Art bag. The Dior Lady Art collection invites contemporary artists to reimagine the iconic Lady Dior handbag, turning it into a wearable masterpiece. Cynthia’s version was designed by African-American artist Mickalene Thomas, whose work is renowned for celebrating Black femininity, power, and identity through rich textures and dazzling embellishments. This was more than just an accessory—it was an art statement.

And dare I say it? This is one of the rare moments where an accessory has managed to upstage Cynthia’s legendary nail game.
