After making history as the first to wear Sarah Burton’s Givenchy Haute Couture on the red carpet at the Oscars, Elle Fanning continued the streak at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, this time in a custom Fall 2025 look.
Her first gown received mixed reactions—some felt it was too predictable, too Elle. So, does this black caped strapless Chantilly lace dress embroidered with black sequins, paired with a striking red belt and matching patent leather pumps, feel like a stronger outing? It certainly brings a bit more contrast, a bit more bite compared to the ethereal softness of her Oscars gown. The cape detail adds drama, the lace brings a touch of gothic romance, and the red accents prevent it from veering too far into the shadows.
While I personally found her first look dreamy and fitting for her, I can see why some were expecting more, but I feel that this look will be a closer indication of what we can expect from the Burton’s first runway collection.
With Cartier jewels adding a final touch of elegance, Elle’s Givenchy chapter is off to an intriguing start.
