Uzo Aduba is back on our screens with The Residence, Netflix’s latest political drama, and for the show’s Hollywood premiere, she made sure her outfit matched the prestige of the setting.
Since the series takes place in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, Uzo dressed with serious power dressing in mind, opting for an uber-chic Balenciaga Hourglass blazer. Inspired by the ‘Basque’ waistcoats originally designed by Cristóbal Balenciaga in the 1950s, this structured piece is all about commanding presence—and Uzo wears it so well.
Now, let’s talk about the pencil skirt. At first glance, some might think there’s been a wardrobe mishap, but that twisted detail is entirely intentional. Given that this is a Demna design, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that there’s a touch of deconstruction involved—he’s known for taking classic silhouettes and giving them an unexpected, avant-garde spin.
Some might argue that this look leans a little too strict, a little too buttoned-up, and even a little too snug, but I’m here for the power dressing. The sharply tailored blazer carves out a stunning hourglass silhouette, ensuring that Uzo looks every bit the leading lady she is.
I love this moment for her—high fashion, and high drama.
