Following Another Simple Favor’s SXSW world premiere, Blake Lively brought her signature sartorial flair to London for a photocall at the Corinthia Hotel—and I have thoughts.
Wearing a black and gold-trimmed Chanel cardigan, it would be easy to assume she had raided the archives, but this piece is actually from the Fall 2024 collection. I know. But let’s not blame the cardigan for the retro vibes it’s giving—it’s the styling doing all the heavy lifting here.
With the plaid mini skirt, towering black boots, and a beehive hairstyle that could’ve walked straight out of Mad Men, the look is delivering a very specific energy. I’d place it somewhere between ’60s secretary chic and a lost scene from Clueless set in Paris.
For those of us who love a theme, the look offers a fun little puzzle. The Chanel camera bag? A sly wink to the original film, where Emily’s confession is caught on a hidden camera? Blake might be skipping the suit parade this time around, but she’s clearly still weaving in the references.
That said, I personally preferred how the cardigan was styled on the runway with the matching trousers and belt. It felt sleeker, and the belt helped define the waist in a way Blake’s look doesn’t quite manage.
Is it overstyled? Absolutely. Is it on brand for her? Completely. And that’s part of the fun with Blake—she’s always telling a story, whether you like the book or not. Personally, I think the end result it aging.
