The Fashion Trust U.S. Awards in LA gave us plenty to chew on—some surprises, some stunners, and some moments that have me thinking, “Where do we go from here?” From the sartorial highs to the “almost there” moments, the red carpet offered everything from drama to demure, with just a touch of the unexpected. Let’s break it all down, one sequin, hood and scarf at a time.

Schiaparelli and Law Roach? A Destiny-level pairing

Ryan Destiny just started working with Law Roach, and wow—talk about getting the Zendaya treatment. Her white Schiaparelli Sarong-inspired dress, with its narrow silhouette and strategically placed gold buttons, created the illusion of extra inches in height. She floated down the carpet with that statuesque energy. Elegant, modern, and powerful.

Taraji said leather weather

Taraji P. Henson brought that heat in a strapless leather bustier dress from the Simkhai Fall 2025 collection. This look was all about the strong femme energy—structured yet sultry, with that gold clutch sealing the deal. It’s the kind of glam-meets-edge combo that only Taraji can truly master.

If loving a hooded dress is wrong, I don’t want to be right

Even if you’re in team Over-the-hooded-trend, you’ve got to admit Poorna Jagannathan nailed it in her black satin Dolce & Gabbana number. It had a regal mystery to it—dramatic without being costume-y. The hood elevated the look from simple to statement in the most sophisticated way.

A little Geoffrey Beene and a lot of hope

Could this be the beginning of a Normani fashion renaissance? I’m crossing all fingers. This vintage Geoffrey Beene gold cut-out bodysuit paired with a black pencil skirt feels like a rebirth. It’s sultry, it’s structured, it’s giving the kind of energy I hope she continues through the rest of 2025.

Sheer-iously impressive

Mandy Moore goes sheer? Very unexpected. And yet, this LaPointe embellished crop top and matching skirt were executed with taste and polish. The Roger Vivier clutch added a finish to a look.

Vanity Fair Oscar Party Ready

Madison Bailey looked absolutely divine in this Zuhair Murad Spring 2025 strapless bustier gown with a scarf detail. The fit, the glamour, the glow—it’s all there. But the vibe felt more “Oscar after-party” than Fashion Trust fête. Gorgeous? Yes. Event-appropriate? I guess, but I wish she had had more fun with her look for this event.

Styling Choices Were Made

Madeline Brewer’s Balmain moment had potential—until we got to the bottom half. The red sequin backless halter dress had me breathless, but the opaque tights and uninspired shoes dragged the whole look down.

Our new fashion villain?

Like it or not, Lisa Rinna is everywhere, and fashion is her new playground. This Vetements Spring 2025 abstract floral gown with bold shoulders and mega-long sleeves is a lot, but also, so is she. The drama was dialled all the way up, and while it’s not for everyone, she’s staying true to her new fashion persona: unapologetically extra.

Black on repeat

Laura Harrier in yet another black dress. This time it’s Diotima Fall 2025, and while the brand’s artistry can’t be denied, Laura’s style is stuck on repeat.. She always looks good, no question, but we’re craving a bit more risk, a little more range. Beautiful? Always. Memorable? Not so much.

Déjà vu

Laufey wore Bode, but if I had a dollar for every time I confused one of these frilly collar dresses for Chanel, I’d be halfway to affording one. She always leans into a vintage romanticism, and while the silhouette is familiar, there’s something charming about how committed she is to this aesthetic.

Better Call Law

Ciara wore a Dundas black lace jumpsuit that misses her once fresh or tailored to her essence. It is not bad per se, but it feels like she’s still searching for that style sweet spot. Law Roach was in the room, I hope their paths crossed and numbers were exchanged.

Simple and chic wins again

Aja Naomi King opted for a black one-shoulder velvet Monse dress from the Fall 2025 collection. Simple, elegant, unfussy—and honestly, kind of refreshing. While others were aiming for big fashion moments, Aja served a quiet slay.
