Gemma Chan mint green Tamara Ralph Spring 2025 Couture To The 'CARTIER' at the V&A Museum Gala Dinner

On Thursday, Cartier hosted an intimate dinner ahead of the public opening of CARTIER at the V&A, a spectacular exhibition that showcases more than 350 pieces from The Cartier Collection, the V&A archives, private loans, and even the Royal Collection. In other words, Cartier is giving us a masterclass in legacy, luxury, and craftsmanship—and the guest list dressed accordingly.

Enter Gemma Chan, who attended in a mint sequin fringe gown from Tamara Ralph’s Spring 2025 collection that couldn’t have been more on-brand for an evening dedicated to sparkle. The colour? Ethereal. The drama? Subtle but present. This was a gown worthy of toasting over rare Cartier tiaras with a coupe of champagne in hand.

We have the trending chiffon neck scarf making yet another appearance, and on Gemma it reads less “of the moment” and more “timeless elegance.” It adds a touch of Old Hollywood glamour, as if she stepped out of a 1930s French Riviera soirée—and I mean that in the best way.

That said, I do have one bone to pick with this look. The stocking gloves. I’ll admit it: I flinched a little. Not because I’m anti-glove—done right, they can elevate a look—but these felt like a mismatch. A touch too sheer, a tad too flimsy, and not quite in the same luxe register as the rest of her ensemble. With the gown and the Cartier jewels doing the heavy lifting (and doing it well), the gloves just felt… extra. As in, surplus to requirements.

Still, it’s a return to form for Gemma after her last red carpet outing, and I’m grateful to see her leaning back into that quiet sophistication she wears so well. A nearly perfect look—just one accessory away from perfection.
