Wearing an archival John Galliano Fall 1994 ruby red bias-cut gown from the designer’s legendary São Schlumberger collection, Lauren Sánchez looked like she time-travelled straight from a fashion fantasy. Bias-cut mastery, liquid silk clinging to curves, a low-plunge thin-strap bodice with a draped front overlay—I’m in awe.
There has always been chatter about how she should dress because she’s engaged to Jeff Bezos, but let’s all take a moment to applaud the fact that Lauren has never abandoned her signature aesthetic. Yes, she’s added a glossy layer of Hollywood polish (thank you, celeb stylist fairy godmother), but she’s still serving her version of glam, unapologetically. And frankly, you kind of have to admire her not giving into the pressure.
The pièce de résistance? That cheeky Judith Leiber crystal-embellished astronaut clutch. A glittering, tongue-in-chic nod to her upcoming 11-minute trip into space on a self-driving rocket, developed by her fiancé aerospace company, Blue Origin. You don’t get more thematic than that.
Fun fashion fact: this Galliano gown was previously worn by the late, great Raquel Welch at the Commitment to Life IX Gala in 1996. Talk about fashion with history—and Lauren more than did it justice.
