We’ve seen Kendrick Lamar craft razor-sharp verses, dominate the Grammys, and redefine what a halftime show can be—but becoming a Chanel ambassador? Now that was a plot twist.
Chanel, with its couture-clad history has never really done menswear. And yet, it didn’t stop Pharrell Williams or Giveon from flexing in the house’s threads, and it certainly didn’t stop Kendrick from staking his claim in a space not traditionally tailored to him. We really didn’t see this coming—but somehow, it makes perfect sense.
Lamar’s relationship with Chanel has been brewing quietly and stylishly. Let’s rewind. The 2023 Met Gala? Kendrick showed up like he owned the Karl Lagerfeld tribute theme. Vintage Chanel? Check. Red bandana and leather blazer? Double check. A CC tooth cap? Only Kendrick could make dental fashion a thing. Then came Paris Haute Couture Week in July 2023. He turned heads in a white tweed blazer (Chanel’s holy grail), monogrammed denim, layered pearls, and tortoiseshell sunglasses.
Now, it’s official. Chanel has named Kendrick Lamar as their brand ambassador and the face of their Spring/Summer 2025 eyewear campaign. Joining Lupita Nyong’o, Margaret Qualley, and Nana Komatsu. Lamar rounds out this campaign as the symbol of fearless musical genius. Shot by Karim Sadli, each ambassador dons bold frames rooted in Chanel’s codes but updated for right now.

Kendrick summed it up with the kind of cool precision that only he could: “Chanel has a timeless legacy and that is always something I can get behind. Since they don’t make clothes for men, I knew it would have to be glasses.” Never one to force the fit, Kendrick found his lane within the house and made it his own.
It’s worth noting he’s not the first man to do so—Wang Yibo beat him to that title in 2021, becoming Chanel’s first male House Ambassador. But Kendrick’s presence adds a different texture. There’s something poetic about a Pulitzer-winning artist finding his moment in a house known for its pearls and perfume. Call it unexpected. Call it genius. Either way, Chanel just got a dose of Compton cool.
