Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s very public beef regarding their two children just took a messy turn.
Spears’s attorney released a statement on the singer’s behalf on Thursday, August 11, after Federline published videos to Instagram in which Spears appears to argue with her sons. According to Federline, the videos were recorded nearly four years ago; they have since been removed from the platform.
“Britney has faithfully supported her children and she loves them dearly,” reads the statement from Mathew Rosengart, per Today. “Whether he realizes it or not, Mr. Federline has not only violated the privacy and dignity of the mother of his children, he has undermined his own children, whose privacy he should protect. Putting aside his ITV interview, Mr. Federline’s ill-advised decision to post an old video of his 11- and 12-year-old children was cruel, bottom of the barrel stuff.”
The former couple, who share sons Sean, 16, and Jayden, 15, from their brief marriage in the mid-2000s, have been exchanging words on social media after Federline suggested that their sons decided to stop visiting her because they are embarrassed by their mother’s Instagram photos during an interview with ITV last week.
Spears, as well as her new husband, Sam Asghari, responded to the attacks on social media, calling Federline’s comments “hurtful” and blasting him for publicly discussing Spears’s private relationships with her sons.

On August 10, Spears opened up further about her sons in a since-deleted Instagram post, which was screenshotted by a fan account.
“The situation should have 100 percent been dealt with privately and definitely not online,” she wrote, apparently referring to the ITV interview, according to the snapshots. “I know that teenagers are a hard to deal with at that age, but COME ON,” she continues, “there’s being rude and then there’s being HATEFUL.”
