When you’re a child actor, sometimes your biggest milestones are captured on screen. For Stranger Things star Sadie Sink, it was her first kiss.
Sink joined the cast of the hit Netflix series in its second season, playing the no-bullshit, skateboarding California girl Max Mayfield. Max and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) grow closer after fending off demogorgons and eventually share their first kiss at the Snowball Dance in the season two finale. In a new interview with W Magazine, Sink recalled sharing the “awkward” rite of passage with her character when she was around 15 years old.
“[My first kiss was] on set for Stranger Things,” the now-20-year-old told W. “It was with Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas. We were filming. You can see it on Netflix! We were both awkward, but it was also funny because all our friends were there and all these extras and lights and music. It was nerve-wracking at the time, but I look back now and can laugh about it.”
Sadie Sink is not the only Stranger Things star who shared their first kiss on set while filming a scene at a school dance. Milly Bobby Brown famously declared that “kissing sucks” after filming the season one finale with Finn Wolfhard in 2016. The pair were just 12 and 13 years old, respectively. If I had a nickel, blah blah blah.
“I did have to kiss Finn. At the end of the day, it’s only acting, and it’s something you have to do, and I would do anything for the show. I cut my hair, I kissed Finn,” Brown told Maddie Ziegler during a Q+A for Interview Magazine following the premiere. “It was definitely strange. It was, like, my first kiss, so it was kind of weird.”
