valentine's day 1

What better way to dress for Valentine’s Day than in a sexy robe? Sexy robes are like gift wrap for humans. (And don’t y’all come at me about objectifying people — this is all the spirit of good, flirty, V-Day fun.)

The thing is, sexy robes are kind of hard to find. You go searching the interwebs and you mostly see two extremes. One is the plush, cotton robe that you lounge around in on self-care days. And the other is the raunchy, barely there garment that looks terribly uncomfortable.

Now maybe my idea of “sexy” is on the conservative side, but I prefer a piece that’s romantic and a bit flirty — not so strappy and sheer that you should be holding a whip while you’re wearing it.

If you agree with my robe style philosophy, you’ll love this collection of 12 budget-friendly robes that are sure to impress this Valentine’s Day

Best (budget-friendly) sexy robes

1. For smitten spouses

Let’s start with a cute set for the wife-and-husband team that love celebrating their union. The satin set has five color options and your choice of printed design on the back. Your options are Mr. and Mrs. or Hubby and Wifey. The set is ideal for newly married couples enjoying their first Valentine’s Day as husband and wife.

2. Pretty, playful two-piece

How about two pieces in one for under $20? This pretty, lacy set includes a babydoll chemise and a matching lace, wrap-style robe. You can tie the robe closed or leave it open, whatever feels right. Choose from eight colors, ranging from soft pink to deep hunter green.

3. Rhinestone cowgirl

Rhinestones make the difference here. This fully sheer piece is understated, but the addition of rhinestones gives it just enough sparkle.

4. Flirty cheetah

You don’t have bear all to captivate your SO. If you live in a colder climate, you might appreciate a bit more coverage, as provided by this long black robe with cheetah-print accents.

5. Intimate in ivory

For a sweeter look, find a lingerie robe in ivory or white. This one features wide sleeves, a flirty hemline, and eyelash lace details.

6. Sheer sensation

All over lace plus a scalloped hemline make for a delicate — and alluring — garment. One Amazon reviewer said she was in love with herself for a minute after putting it on. Which is exactly the point of wearing a sexy robe, yes?

7. Birds of a feather

The feather detail on the sleeves of this lace robe scream old Hollywood glamour. You’ll love the midi length — it’s more wearable and flattering than the more common ultra-short hemline.

8. Long and lovely

Simple and sophisticated, this floor-length piece in the kimono style — meaning it has no belt — will flatter most figures. Wear it over anything or nothing, as you see fit.

9. Perfect in plum

Show as little or as much as you want in this elegant sheer plum robe by Oh La La Cheri. Wide sleeves and a big satin bow set this one apart from the pack.

10. Animal magnetism

If fierce is the look you’re after, take a look at this piece from Lingerie Diva. The tiger print pattern is set off with lace at the hem and around the open panel in the back. My disclaimer is that I’m not sure how you’d get the robe to sit off your shoulders as shown in the picture!

11. Blazing new trails

If you’re not ready to step out in just a teddy, try a teddy with a matching robe. The blazer-style robe features eyelash lace embellished kimono sleeves that set off the satin body. It’s elegant over the teddy, which is on the revealing side.

12. Red to remember

Here’s a more traditional sexy lingerie robe, in V-Day’s signature color. The babydoll waist adds a touch of innocence, but the rest is pretty racy — including the matching G-string panty that comes with it.

Sexy Robe FAQs

Robe vs. bathrobe…what’s the difference?

I use the term “sexy robe” to differentiate satin, silk, and lace garments from the plush cotton bathrobes they give you at the spa. You use the sexy robe as lingerie or flirty lounge wear. The plush bathrobe is better after a shower or when comfort is a priority (vs. how pretty you look).

How/where do you shop for a sexy robe?

To shop for a sexy robe, start with online lingerie shops. If you prefer something more modest, try searching for bridal robes or satin robes. Bridal shops like AW Bridal have pretty options at budget prices. And, clothing retailer Venus has a good selection of robes that are flirty but not trashy.

How do you wear a robe?

There are no rules for wearing a sexy robe. Go with what feels right for you and your partner. You might slip it on over a matching bra-and-panty set, a teddy, a short nightie, or over nothing at all.

Are robes meant to be slept in?

No, don’t sleep in your robe. The belt can be problematic for light sleepers. Roll on the knot and it’ll wake you up. Or, it comes untied and your robe ends up tangled across your body or stuck in the sheets.

What is the point of a silk robe?

The point of a silk robe is to look and feel pretty. Silk feels amazing on your skin (and your partner’s). Wearing it is a sensory experience for both of you.

Can you wash a silk robe?

Love your look this V-Day

Whether you’re looking to surprise your partner with something special or indulge yourself, sexy robes offer the perfect combination of comfort and style. From daring laces to sultry sheers, there’s a range of styles to choose from that won’t break the bank.
